Events We try to encourage our crop dusting students to learn a little bit about Oklahoma and the North Texas area. There is a lot of history in this part of Texas and Oklahoma . Cattle drives from back in the 1800's, bank robbers and cattle rustlers. Cattle drives across Red River that divides Oklahoma and Texas . We often, when we're not flying, sponsor outings on Red River or take the students to local events, such as, the Waurika Rattlesnake hunt and Bar - be - cue. A real site to take in during August, we go to another small town to a watermelon festival. The city brings in refrigerated semi - truck vans, fill them with watermelons and lets them cool before the weekend festival begins. The weekend of the festival, the city spreads tables all along main street and under the trees and cuts the melons for everyone to eat. People from as far as Dallas and Oklahoma City come. Even brokers from the large grocery chains come to order semi truck loads of melons for their companies. Some of the largest ranches and farms in Oklahoma and Texas are in this area. We are near Nacona , Texas where the famous Nacona Cowboy boots are made and sold. They have thousands of boots in stock, at the factory, and at very attractive discount prices. Concessions are available and as you can expect lots of tall tales are traded! All of our ag - pilot graduates and current students are invited and in the evening we have a big bonfire on the Red River and a good old - fashioned barbeque. I hope to see you there.
